The Italian Edit · Murano — Inside the Furnace

Behind every piece of Murano glass is a process that is physical, precise and deeply human. We return regularly to the workshops in Italy to meet the glassmakers, follow production and select the elements that become part of The Italian Edition.

Where glass takes form

Inside the furnace, material and movement are inseparable. Heat, timing and the hand of the maker determine the character of every element. Small variations are not imperfections to be erased, but traces of a process that makes each piece individual.

From raw material to light

We visit our makers continuously rather than sourcing at a distance. It gives us a closer understanding of the techniques, materials and people behind the collections — and allows us to follow both newly made pieces and remarkable vintage glass as it moves through the workshop.

A living archive

Some of the most compelling moments happen away from the furnace: crates of original glass, forms waiting to be rediscovered and shelves carrying decades of Italian production. This is where our work as curators begins — looking, comparing, asking questions and finding the pieces that deserve another life.

From the furnace in Italy to an interior in Stockholm, Paris or beyond, the story of the light begins with the glass — and with the hands that make it.
